School’s Out Washington’s Bridge Conference is taking place Oct. 24-25. You must be registered with School’s Out Washington in order to attend.

How to Use Sched: Because this is an in-person Conference, each session is first-come, first-served. The majority of our sessions will range from 30-80 people. This online schedule is to help you think in advance about which sessions you are most interested in.

You may have used Sched via a personal log-in for past Conferences. Because this is an in-person Conference and sessions are first-come, first-served, there is no log-in for attendees.

We will also offer a printed program for all attendees at the Conference, which will include session titles, presenters, and locations.

Workshop E7: Elevating from 'El Corazón': Affirming Cultural Capital to support Latin/a/o/e/x Youth in K-12

Latin/a/o/e/x youth experience conflicting duality of identities-- navigating both their home cultures and mainstream American society. Often mislabel as deviant, Latin/a/o/x/e face a number of challenges affect diploma completion and enrollment into university. To better support scholars, we must re-shift our framework. Developed by Tara Yosso, Community Cultural Wealth conceptualizes 6 different types of cultural capitals youth carry into educational spaces. In this workshop, you will learn how to identify those capitals to support a strengthen based development that will place scholars on a pathway towards success.
Through a hands on interactive workshop, educators in direct service will learn strategies to better engage Latin/a/e/x scholars. Are you elevating from the heart? Bring your Corazón to our shared space.
